About the project

In 2015, an application was submitted to the County Administrative Board of Västerbotten to build 33 wind turbines in Blisterliden, located in the Skellefteå municipality, west of Bygdsiljum.

In 2019, a new consultation was held, during which the application was adjusted to increase the total height of the wind turbines to 250 meters. Renewed surveys of natural values, birds, and watercourses were conducted in 2021 and 2022, resulting in some changes to the project area layout.

In the summer of 2022, the application was announced, and in July 2023, Holmen received a positive decision from the County Administrative Board, allowing them to proceed with 14 of the applied wind turbines. The remaining 19 turbines were denied by the Swedish Armed Forces.

What happens next?

Appeal

Holmen's intention is to realize the project as soon as possible to provide new fossil-free energy production to the area. Despite this, they have chosen to appeal two of the conditions to enable the most optimal project layout and utilization of wind resources possible. Holmen intends to submit an elaborated statement to the Land and Environmental Court before September 5, 2023.

Surveys

In late summer 2023, work has begun on detailed planning, including geotechnical surveys and supplementary inventories.

Timeline ahead

Holmen is working towards making an investment decision and commencing construction in 2024.
